Excellent statistics that destroy gun control myths

Newbieshooter has compiled some great statistics on firearm fatalities for children and the U.S. population in general that put the lie to gun control myths. (HT: Weer’d World)

The first study destroys the myth that firearms are a leading cause of death for children 18 and under. In fact, vehicle accidents kill over 40 times the number of children as firearms in 2007, the latest data available. We should consider banning cars, or simple ban children from riding in a moving vehicle. That’s just common sense vehicle control. It’s all about the children, after all. Oh, and drowning kills about 12 times more children than firearms. We should ban children from water – common sense water control!

The second study equally destroys the myth that firearms are a leading cause of death in general. CDC data for 2007 shows that heart disease kills about 100 times the number of people as firearm homicides, the latter of which barely shows on the chart. Firearm accidents fall well below that. So, we should ban hambergers and french fries – common sense diet control! Who could argue with that? After all, it’s all about the children.

The third study looks at basically the same statistics over a longer period. This shows that unintentional firearm fatalities (i.e., homicides and accidents) account for just about 0.5% of all deaths each year over that period. That half a percent. Put that in perspective. According to the AFT in 2007, there were over 1.6 million pistols and 2.1 million rifles/shotguns/misc built, for over 3.7 million firearms. Out of that 3.7 million, and infinitesimal number were used in any homicide. Surely the rest were all defective according to the Brady bunch.

No Lawyers – Only Guns and Money compared the FBI violent crime statistics against the growth of concealed carry in the US since 1986. If you guessed that there’s a negative correlation, you’re smarter than the anti’s. In fact, I ran the numbers on his data and came up with a -0.83 correlation between the violent crime rate and the population living under CCW. That a very powerful negative correlation. By 2011, some 70% of the U.S. population lives under shall-issue concealed carry laws. Rather than the “wild west shoot-outs” that the Brady crowd predicted, we see exactly the opposite. In fact, must-issue concealed carry stands as the law in 40 states now. Every one has seen their violent crime drop consistently, so there’s no blood flowing in the streets. Another lie by those who would steal your Constitutional rights and God-given freedom.

So, every time a Brady stooge quotes some absurd statistic, go back to the source data to both check their lies and to put their cherry-picked, out-of-context numbers into overall perspective. Instead of racist, freedom-stealing gun control, we need common sense moron control.

Freedom – don’t leave home without it!

(That’s a 7.62mm Springfield M1A in case you don’t recognize it. Awesome.)
