Mark Alexander of the Patriot Post wrote an historically correct and damning critique of liberal assumptions held by the likes of Chris Cuomo and Barach Obama. The opening quote from Thomas Jefferson lays out the reality of liberty:
God who gave us life gave us Liberty. Can the liberties of a nation be secure when we have removed a conviction that these liberties are the gift of God? Indeed I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just, that His justice cannot sleep forever. (1774)
That quote was used a lot in past decades to counter the liberal socialist agenda that assumes that rights are granted by a benevolent, nanny government. That’s now what our founding document, the Declaration of Independence, said:
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.–That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed…
The Founders understood that all rights come from our Holy, Just, and Gracious God, not men. What governments of men can give, governments of men can take away. That’s why the Second Amendment is included in the Bill of Rights – to ensure that no government of men would ever take away the God-given liberties of the American people. It wasn’t and isn’t about hunting. It’s about the preservation of liberty, protecting it from tyrants.
Of course, liberals want to eliminate the Second Amendment. Just see what the liberals in Newtown Panel want to do. They want to gut the Second Amendment by registering, limiting, and confiscating the firearms of law-abiding citizens – the foundational step toward tyranny.
Please read Mark Alexander’s essay. The truth is out there. Liberals want to hide the truth and define your limited liberties for you. Obama’s disregard for the laws of our nation demonstrate the liberal way. Don’t be fooled.
