Snoverkill in progress, stabs global warming in the heart

So, here I sit again watching a blizzard out my window. This is the third time in just over a month. After Snowpocalypse in December with 21″, Snowmageddon earlier this week with 23″, now Snoverkill is adding to the fun. About two hours ago I measured 8″ out front and its still snowing heavily, albeit sideways in the wind:

Snoverkill brings blizzard conditions yet again

At times, visibility drops to 1/4 mile in the blowing snow. This is supposed to go on throughout the afternoon. Oh joy. We’re praying for global warming here in the DC area.

The Capital Weather Gang has an interesting chart for record snowfalls that shows the cyclical nature of these events:

From the Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang

Note that there is lots of variability but no net decrease over time. The CWG appraised our current situation:

Get this: our 45″ this season is more than the last four winters COMBINED (which was only 35.5″).

Ouch. I must point out that the 45″ is measured at Reagan National Airport, which historically has much lower snow totals than the surrounding region. I live only a few miles up the river from Reagan. My snow total in Snowmageddon was 21″ while Reagan was 16.4″. For Snowpocalypse, I had about 22-23″ while Reagan claimed 17.8″. We’ve also had several smaller snow storms. So, I’m well above (>56″) Reagan’s 45″ already. The NWS has to pick a better place to measure the snow.

Right now, activity on the sun is extremely low, causing our climate to cool significantly. That’s exactly what the sane voices have been saying to counter the Anthropological Global Warming morons. CO2 has little to do with the climate compared to the effect of the planets single, overwhelming source of energy – the sun.

This isn’t just a local phenomenon. Europe is also being hammered. So is China. I’ve written before about the worldwide cold. Yet Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., drank the Al Gore Koolaid and wrote in 2008 that snow has become a vanishing rarity in DC:

In Virginia, the weather also has changed dramatically. Recently arrived residents in the northern suburbs, accustomed to today’s anemic winters, might find it astonishing to learn that there were once ski runs on Ballantrae Hill in McLean, with a rope tow and local ski club. Snow is so scarce today that most Virginia children probably don’t own a sled.

What a moron! I wonder if he’d like to come over and help shovel our imaginary snow that the evil oil companies are foisting on us to cover up Kennedy’s delusional conspiracy. I doubt it. Of course, Kennedy is still drinking the Koolaid deeply. He wrote yesterday in his defense:

Climate change is occurring. A single snowstorm doesn’t change that.

Where did Kennedy get his degrees in fluid mechanics and computer modeling? Physics? Oh, like Al Gore he doesn’t have any. He doesn’t have a clue how the supposed CO2 greenhouse effect works. He has no idea of the massive effect of the sun on climate and the weather compared to the minuscule ratio of CO2 (~0.03%) in the atmosphere. By comparison, water vapor accounts for about 2% of the atmosphere on average (varies locally from 0 to 4% or so depending on the local humidity.) That makes water vapor the dominant “greenhouse gas” by a factor of well over 100. Maybe we should spend trillions of dollars to cover the oceans with a giant tarp to save the planet, eh?

It’s said that climate is what you predict and weather is what you get. In the case of the global warming morons, climate is what gets you paid and weather is what you dismiss as irrelevant when it contradicts your faulty long-range models. Go figure.

FWIW, we’re up to 9″ of snow. It’s still snowing hard and blowing sideways as I finish this post. Did I mention where Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., and Al Gore can stick my >56″ of snow (not counting today)?
