“God is on our side”

OK, I don’t know that any of the Federal Vision bloggers actually used these exact words, but some clearly imply that on their blogs. They will wait us out–God will vindicate them. Well, I humbly suggest that God has spoken through the 35th PCA General Assembly, the OPC, RPCNA, RCUS, BPC, WTS, Mid-America, etc., etc., that Federal Vision falls outside of and is contrary to the Westminster Standards. Isn’t submission to our brothers part of what it means to be a Presbyterian?

With a 95-98% majority voting against Federal Vision in the 35th GA, how arrogant do you have to be to see yourself as a modern Jeremiah? Even after 4 years of working inside the Washington DC beltway with all the massive egos here, I find it hard to imagine that kind of hubris.

It seems to me that officers in the PCA holding to or supporting Federal Vision theology have two choices at this point per BCO 21-4 questions 2, 3, and 4 for teaching elders or BCO 24-6 questions 2, 3, and 5 for ruling elders if they are men of honor: 1) submit to the overwhelming decision of their brothers and repent of their views, returning to the Reformed faith as taught by the Scriptures and summarized in the Westminster Standards; or 2) clearly declare themselves out of accord with the Standards and move on to the CREC (Doug Wilson’s custom-created denomination) or other denomination that welcomes these particular theological errors. To do otherwise would simply be equivocating and divisive, violating their respective BCO 21-4 or 24-6 oaths to uphold the purity and peace of the church.

As for members in the pews that sympathize with Federal Vision theology, I recommend sitting down and talking with non-FV teaching and ruling elders. They can help you see clearly how Federal Vision falls out of accord with the Westminster Standards, including the Biblical concept of salvation. Above all, pray for the humility to submit to the wisdom of your brothers and elders, as well as for the wisdom and insight to break free of this error.

I pray that God will now heal of the divisions caused by the Federal Vision errors and that the PCA can move on to spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ around the nation and the world.

Soli Deo Gloria!
