I posted some time ago about how to fix the network error in AWN’s excellent weather applet. Unfortunately, it reappeared after I upgraded to Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick to 11.04 Natty. I’m not sure why this regression occurred, as the version in Natty is newer.
Once again, the issue seems to be the weather.com weather map location. While some have advocated simply commenting out the notification in the weather script, I found a good solution this time in this Ubuntu forum post by shenmeister that preserves the map. It only involves editing two lines the weather.py script as sudo. You can do this from the terminal by typing:
gksudo gedit /usr/share/avant-window-navigator/applets/weather/weather.py
Then just search for the appropriate lines towards the end of the script. Save, then log out and back in again. Worked like a charm for me and my map is back. Thanks, shenmeister!
