In case you’ve been napping for the last couple of months, know now that Acrobat Reader 9.1 had a nasty vulnerability that has been exploited in the wild. I have been using acroread 9.1 from the Medibuntu repository. When I tried to look for an update tonight, I noticed that acroread was no longer in the repository. Hmmm.
After some research on the always helpful Ubuntu forums, I found that Acrobat Reader is now available in the Canonical Partner repository. That includes the 64-bit version. To get it, simply enable the repository in System -> Administration -> Software Sources, Other Software tab:
Ensure that the repository line has your proper distribution on the line – karmic in my case. Mine originally had jaunty listed, probably from before my update to karmic. If necessary, simply highlight the line, click on Edit, and update the distribution appropriately.
After clicking on Close, the package list will update. The new acroread version 9.3 will be offered for update. Install, and you’re covered.
